How To Start A Successful Online Business In Four Easy Steps

With internet use on the increase day by day and with over 3000 searches made per day about working from home, it is important that a carefully planned system needs to be implemented to run a successful work from home internet business.

Working from home is not impossible or a thing only for the smart ones. Anyone can start a successful internet business with just a few key steps.

I have listed below some of the most important things that you need to run a successful internet business. Some of these points are also relevant for running a "normal" business.

1. Research: Researching your market is very important. You need to understand your market, who is doing what, how are they doing it, and what you should be doing to get customers from your competitors.
2. Imagination: Run your business in your head for a few weeks to fine tune it. Look for pot holes in your business plan, your product , your service and find ways to change, improve or fine tune it. Picture customers asking questions about your products, why they should buy your when your competition is selling it cheaper. Visualize customers asking for their money back within the guarantee period and after the guarantee period. How did you handle it?
3. SWOT: Do a Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threat Analysis on yourself, your staff and your product.
4. Customer Service: Remember the more you look after your customer, the greater the chances they will stay with you and continue to purchase products you promote. If you can say what you do and do what you say, customers will be happy even to pay that little bit extra just because of your reputation in customer service.

I will run through an imaginary online business to illustrate the above points:

Let us assume we want to sell an Ebook on cooking. First we will find out what type of cooking is most sought after, for example, Asian, Continental or American. Then we break this further into say what type of Asian cooking is most popular. Lets say Indian. This can then be broken down even further if you want to what type of Indian cooking is most popular. Is it South Indian or North Indian.

Once we have done our research, we then go to step two and imagine we have created a South Indian Recipe Book. We picture ourselves having this fantastic and tasty Indian cookbook but where are the customers. How are we to get them? What marketing tools are we using to promote our Ebook?

Then picture customers after having purchased your book, email you complaints saying that even though you have mentioned South Indian , you did not have the recipe for Biryani. How are you going to handle that customer? What if they want their money back? What is your plan of action for that? Run through a lot of imaginary problems till you find a way to iron them out. Now you are ready for step 3.

Do a SWOT analysis on yourself, staff (if any) and your product. Are you the right person to sell this product? Can someone else do a better job than you? If so, do you think it will be better if they did it and gave you a cut for passing business (affiliate marketing)?

Finally Customer Service: How will you handle customers who want to try before buying, who want questions answered before they part with their hard earned cash? Maybe they want to know what others think of your product (testimonials) before they press the buy now button.

If you can follow this plan, I am confident your success rate will be much higher than normal.
